Adjusting files

Use this option to calculate and write new file reallocation sizes before you resize a file. When adjusting files, the system examines each file and calculates whether to make it larger or smaller for optimum system performance. The system creates changes that go into effect when you resize files. For more information, see Resizing files. Perform this procedure the last weekend before Month‑End.

To adjust files:

  1. From the Master menu, navigate to Utility > File Maintenance (menu 9.13).

  2. In the File Maintenance window, to calculate new file allocation sizes, select Adjust Files, and press Enter or click Ok.
  3. In the Set File Sizes window, do one of the following:
    • To continue with calculating and writing out new files sizes, click Yes.
    • To exit without calculating and writing out new files sizes, click No.
  4. At the Processing complete prompt, press Enter or click Ok.

    The file sizes are calculated.
